DNA

DNA

It's surprising what we tell ourselves before relationships
The confidence we have in making partner wishlists
The qualities we write that we lack
"Opposites attract"
The expectations we have based on our desires
Yet we fall for the opposite of what we sought for
Flirting with them like our lives depend on it
Phrases like "We were destined for each other"
Or "You were made for me"
Coming out naturally as though part of our DNA
We completely forget that once we had wishes
We draw conclusions to the illusions we set in our heads
A reality we invent
A reality meant to serve us
Yet we fall in the dark and become oblivious
If you are blessed by the heaves, you get your happily ever after
But if you drunk on the cursed waters, your nightmares become your reality
